A Warm Start with Big-Hearted Mentors

Carroll Prep is a preschool that values warmth, relationships, and social-emotional development, alongside academic and language growth. We believe that young children thrive best in an environment where they feel emotionally safe and connected — and where learning is woven naturally into daily life.

During the first week of the school year, our Nursery and Kindergarten 1 students begin their journey with a gentle, half-day transition period alongside their parents.
Instead of jumping straight into academics, this special week is all about emotional adjustment. Each day, children slowly get to know their homeroom teachers and other staff members — a little at a time.

But what makes this week truly special is the presence of our primary students, who return to school not just as learners, but as mentors. These older children volunteer to be “big buddies,” helping our youngest students adjust and feel at home in their new environment.

This initiative is part of our long-standing commitment to peer learning — where children learn not only from adults, but also from one another.

Our primary students don’t just assist; they lead.
They prepare engaging activities like sensory play, storytelling, and guided classroom tours — all based on their own fond memories of being in preschool at Carroll Prep.

The result? Everyone grows.
The little ones feel supported and joyful — and our big kids develop real-life leadership skills: teamwork, communication, empathy, and a genuine sense of responsibility. These experiences help shape them as thoughtful, confident learners.
